One Union? Check. One health plan? Check!

“The successful merger of these plans would not have been possible if we hadn’t united SAG and AFTRA first. This historic agreement dramatically improves our members’ ability to qualify for health benefits for themselves and their families. One of the biggest challenges our members faced was the inability to combine earnings from both SAG and AFTRA contracts to achieve eligibility. With one health plan we have eliminated that issue, making split earnings a thing of the past.” – President Gabrielle Carteris

We hope by now you’ve heard the exciting news: we have delivered on a key promise to SAG-AFTRA members. The trustees of the Screen Actors Guild Health Plan and the AFTRA Health Fund have voted to merge, creating a new SAG-AFTRA Health Plan.

When Unite For Strength, USAN and member leaders from around the country committed to merging SAG and AFTRA in order to create one powerful union, we paved the way for merger of the health plans. This new plan not only enables more members to qualify for healthcare by eliminating the problem of split earnings, but also provides full family coverage at all qualifying levels.

Under the leadership of our late President Ken Howard and current President Gabrielle Carteris, our union pushed vigorously for a merged health plan that would best serve our members. Your needs were clearly spelled out to the health plan trustees, and now the fruits of those labors are realized.

Effective advocacy for our members is an ongoing process. Together, we are in it for the long haul and we thank you for your valuable support and confidence. We will continue to fight for real results and we will deliver.

In unity,
